What a fantastic trip to Design Centre @designcentrech at the end of last week! It was an absolute delight to meet so many incredible artists, many of whom I’ve admired from afar for years. There’s something truly special about seeing their work up close and personal.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Speronella @hares_tail_printing whose beautiful block printing has captured my heart for the longest time. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she’s also an absolute gem of a person. Meeting her was a highlight of the day!🫶

While I couldn’t catch up with other talented designers like Molly @mollymahonblockprinting Susi @susibellamy and Sophie @sophierobinsoninteriors during their time at the Design Centre throughout the week, I’m holding onto the hope that our paths will cross at another event in the future. Until then, I’ll keep admiring their work from afar❤️

Take a look at this stunning gathered lampshade, made by my talented student, Anne.

This beauty features a colourful, warm hand-block printed fabric that Anne handpicked during her visit to one of Brighton’s vibrant fabric shops.

Throughout her training with me, Anne consistently showcased an impeccable eye for fabrics and colours. Her choice of the rich burgundy lining and matching bias-trim against the vibrant pink and turquoise background is a personal favourite of mine – it adds such a cosy warmth to the overall design.

I couldn’t be more thrilled with Anne’s dedication and the exceptional work she’s produced. 🫶

What a delightful change in weather this week! I couldn’t be more pleased to be back in the studio with my lovely student Anne, enjoying the cooler temperatures.

This exquisite Toile de Jouy lampshade was made at the end of last week and I’m absolutely smitten with how the added trim has beautifully defined the elegant shape of the shade, resting atop its slim and refined base.

Anne has been hard at work during her bespoke lampshade course with me and we have two more stunning lampshades to share with you from her extensive collection. Stay tuned for more artistic inspiration!

Another fantastic day at the studio as Anne and I delved deeper into the art of block printing, but this time with a twist.

To spice things up a bit, Anne decided to explore multi-color block printing on her second day. The result? Absolutely stunning!

In the afternoon, we shifted gears to screen printing, using a stunning rose ink, featuring a charming pineapple motif.

Throughout the day, we delved deep into the history of these printing techniques, discussing their unique qualities, advantages, disadvantages and how they find their place in the world of design.

Today, as we wrap up our three-day printing adventure. Anne is set to carve her own design onto linoleum and transfer it onto fabric. We’re also diving into the fascinating world of creating seamless patterns, both by hand and digitally.

Starting Thursday, we’ll be diving back into lampshade making, complete with exciting fabrics to introduce. Stay tuned for more creative adventures!

This week couldn’t have started any better as I had the pleasure of introducing my lovely student Anne to the art of block printing, using authentic Indian printing blocks straight from the heart of India.

What captivates us about this craft is that these hand-carved blocks not only produce stunning patterns but also carry with them centuries of history and fascinating stories.

With an array of blocks to choose from, Anne is already bubbling with excitement about the endless possibilities this craft offers.

As we continue our week, we’ll delve into printing more patterns on both paper and fabric, and tomorrow, we’re diving into the exciting world of lino printing.

Stay tuned to see Anne’s progress as she’ll be learning three different printing techniques including screen printing in addition to creating seamless repeating patterns by hand and digitally.
