How do I know which course is right for me? All our courses are suitable for beginners and those with some experience in lampshade making. You don’t need any sewing experience, as you will be taught everything in class. Our one-to-one workshops are very popular, as the course can be tailored to your exact level and needs. You will get the opportunity to learn a new craft whilst at ease and at your own pace. We will support you to turn your skills into a business by providing plenty of business advice and trade tips. Your developing skills are improved throughout the course without the pressure of keeping up with a group.
How can I find out when your next workshop will be? We work on a flexible basis for our one-to-one classes. You send us a few dates that work for you, and we will confirm our availability prior to booking the course.
Where are the workshops held? Our workshops are held in our Brighton studio, and a beautiful spacious workshop in the heart of the city. The address will be sent to you following the course booking.
When do I pay for a course booked with Moji Designs? In order to secure and confirm bookings of courses and workshops run by Moji Designs, full payment in advance is required. Payments for all courses can be made by Bacs or Paypal. Bookings are made on a first come first serve basis and places are limited. Please note all payment must be received in pounds and all international transaction fees are the responsibility of the student.
Do I receive an email confirmation of my booking? Yes, after booking you will receive an email with confirmation of payment and a welcome pack, containing all the information you need.
Do I receive a payment receipt for my booking? Yes, you will receive a payment receipt for your booking.
Can I pay for a course using a gift voucher? Yes. A gift voucher can be redeemed against the cost of any of our courses.
How long is a voucher valid for? 6 months
Do I need to bring my own sewing machine to the workshop? We have sewing machines in the studio but you are welcome to bring your own if you would prefer. There is some basic machine stitching involved in the traditional lampshade-making.
What do I need to bring along to the workshops? Yourself! Everything else is provided. However, many students do like to choose their own fabric. You could think about what kind of lampshades you’re going to be making, and whether you’d like to bring your own. Most medium to lightweight fabrics are suitable (including dress and furnishing fabrics, cotton lawn, block print fabrics, fine weave vintage linen, silk chiffons and georgettes). Heavyweight stiff furnishing fabrics, nylon, polyester or fabrics which fray and tear easily are not suitable. If you’re unsure if your fabric is suitable, please get in touch and I can advise you. However, don’t worry if you arrive and your fabric doesn’t work on the day, or if you don’t want to bring your own. We have a wide range of available fabrics that you will be able to choose from. During the workshop, we will be focussing on creating the lampshades and talking through the different processes so there is no need to take notes. However, at the end of the workshop, we will discuss the steps you have completed and the techniques learned, and you may like to keep a pen and paper handy for this. PDF notes will also be sent to you via email, alongside a set of images of the lampshade projects you create during the day to provide a visual reference for your future lampshade projects.
Do I need to bring my own lunch? During one-to-one sessions a light lunch is provided, prepared in a clean covid-safe environment, so please let me know ahead of time if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies. If you would prefer to bring your own lunch please let me know ahead of time
How do I cancel a workshop? In the event that Moji Designs has to cancel a course for insufficient attendance or circumstances beyond their reasonable control including illness such as Covid, as much notice as possible of cancellation will be given and an offer of transfer onto an alternative date will be given. If a cancellation is given by us within 10 days of the course start date, we offer our students a full refund. Unfortunately we are not able to accept any liability for travel or accommodation costs. In the event of students wishing to cancel a booked course, a full refund will be offered if cancellation is requested in writing up to 28 days prior to the course start date. If a cancellation is requested within 28 days of the course start date we cannot offer a refund but will transfer to an alternative date where possible, up to 10 days prior to the course start. If a cancellation is requested within 10 days of the course start date we cannot offer a date transfer except in special circumstances such as bereavement, a student falling ill with Covid or a flight cancellation. If this occurs, please contact us as soon as possible with proof such as an airline notification, doctor’s note, hospitalisation record or positive PCR test. In these exceptional circumstances, we will seek to arrange alternative dates where possible.
Is there parking available? If you’re driving to the studio there is pay and display parking on the street, with a maximum staying time of 4 hours. Additionally, there is free on-street parking five minutes walk away. London road station is our nearest station, ten minutes walk from the studio. Alternatively, there are plenty of taxis available outside the station.
Can I leave feedback about workshops? After each workshop students can leave feedback with us or through a link sent to them. We do appreciate your feedback. It helps us grow and make our courses even better!
