These five lessons can help your creative dream too...
Every creative journey starts with a spark — a small idea that excites you, scares you, and refuses to be ignored. Over the past three decades, I’ve learned that nurturing that spark takes patience, curiosity, and courage.
This week, watching one of my students quietly absorbed in their work reminded me of that feeling. Seeing someone so focused and present made me reflect on my own journey and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Here are five lessons from my creative journey that might help your own dream take shape:
Fall in love with the process, not just the outcome. The magic happens while you’re creating, in those moments when you lose track of time.
Trust your hands. Some of my best ideas come when I stop overthinking and let my instincts guide me.
Start even when it feels imperfect. Every creative journey begins with hesitation. Courage grows only when you begin.
Your mistakes can become your signature. The quirks I once tried to hide became the most honest and memorable parts of my work. Perfection fades; authenticity stays.
Give yourself quiet space. Some of my most inspired ideas came while sitting quietly in the studio, letting the light and stillness guide my thoughts.
Watching my student this week reminded me that creativity is never about knowing exactly where you’ll end up. It’s about having the courage to begin, staying open to discovery, and letting your ideas unfold in their own quiet, beautiful way.
Until next time,
