Finding Inspiration in Everyday Life

Inspiration doesn’t always strike in a dramatic or obvious way. Some of my most creative ideas have come from quiet moments — walking through a garden, noticing a pattern in a piece of fabric, or listening to the rhythm of life around me. Even after years of making, I still find myself jotting down ideas on scraps of paper, sketching in the margins of notebooks, or photographing textures that catch my eye.

Teaching has shown me that students find inspiration in the most unexpected places too. Watching them connect an everyday observation to a project reminds me that creativity isn’t about waiting for the perfect idea. It’s about noticing, collecting, and letting curiosity guide you. The world is full of details waiting to spark a new approach or a fresh design.

The key is to stay open and pay attention. Inspiration grows when we allow ourselves to slow down and really see the world around us. Every walk, conversation, or quiet moment in the studio can be a seed for something beautiful.

Until next time,
