Reflection has become a central part of my creative practice. After a day in the studio, whether teaching or making, I often take time to think about what worked, what challenged me, and what ideas are forming for the future. Reflection helps me see patterns, understand my own process, and notice growth that might be invisible in the moment.
I encourage my students to keep notes, sketches, or photographs of their projects. Returning to earlier work can be revealing — it shows the progress we’ve made, highlights new possibilities, and reminds us of ideas we might want to explore further. Reflection is not just evaluation; it’s a way to understand our creative journey, celebrate progress, and notice what truly inspires us.
Taking time to reflect regularly allows us to connect the dots between effort and achievement. It helps maintain focus, clarity, and a sense of purpose in our work. It is one of the quiet ways that creativity deepens and becomes more meaningful over time.
Until next time,
